Taking A Look at NBA Opening Night

Thank God the NBA is finally starting tonight.  I'm not a big hockey guy, the NFL is garbage truck juice other than the Patriots, and baseball is on the tail end of the playoffs as the World Series is about to start up so its been a little slow in sport for me lately.  There aren't that many games on tonight but the ones that are happening should be pretty cool.  Lets take a look at them.

Cavaliers v.s. Knickerbockers

This is the first game of a double header that is happening on TNT tonight.  This is also the Cavaliers ring ceremony night which might almost definitely make me want to puke all over myself.  I've come to realize that LeBron is amazing so its not even him getting another ring that I hate seeing.  Its LeBron groupies like Iman Shumpert, James Jones, Tristan Thompson, and Mo Williams getting rings that sucks.  Seeing these bums receive rings is just an awful, awful thing and I might not even watch that part.  Wiz Khalifa is performing there tonight too which I don't really get at all.  I'm actually a huge Wiz guy but this is weird to me.  Is this something that usually happens? Do people perform after NBA ring ceremonies?  Absolutely bizarre in my opinion.  Onto the Knicks this team is an abomination of an NBA team.  the only bright spot might be Porzingas and he might be cursed after signing that HUGE deal with Adidas recently.  I mentioned it in my blog about James Harden and his ridculous shorts but almost nothing good comes from players signing with Adidas.  Just terrible vibes from that brand almost all the time.  This Knicks team is more washed up than a men's league basketball team so why do people have good feeling about them? For some reason Knicks fans are excited about Brandon Jennings and his atrocious 28% field goal shooting in the god damn preseason.  Some Knicks fans have this weird sense of entitlement even though they haven't won since 1973 and might have he worst front office in the league.  I actually thought the Cavs would steamroll the Knicks until I saw The Undertaker was at The Q for some reason tonight.

Prediction for this game: Knicks beat Cavaliers because The Undertaker shuts all the lights off in the arena right as Kyrie is about to take a game winning shot, lights turn on for everyone to see The Undertaker giving Kyrie a Tombstone Pile driver.  Flook win for the Knicks on their way to another disappointing/classic season from them.

Utah Jazz v.s. Portland Trail Blazers

This game is not airing on national TV but it is still one of the three games being played tonight.  Personally I like watching these two teams play a lot.  Both of these teams could make the playoffs out of the West and it wouldn't surprise me one bit.  These are two teams that have great coaches in Terry Stots for Portland and Quin Snyder for Utah.  The back court of CJ McCollum and Dame Lillard (go listen to his new album btw) have the ability go give any team buckets at any time which is unreal to watch.  This Jazz team is one of the younger teams in the leagues and have a couple players that I love.  Gordon Hayward is most definitely one of the most underrated guys in the NBA (possible future Celtic since he's boys with Brad Stevens).  He can score, pass, and is a sneaky athlete so never sleep on that guy.  Boris Diaw is another player I have soft spot for.  The guy is just so much slower and so much more fat than everyone on the court and just drops dimes on everyone.  Dropping dimes and smashing nines, thats what Boris Diaw does.

Golden State Warriors v.s. San Antonio Spurs

This is the late game on TNT tonight and the one most people are probably looking forward too.  Now a lot of people are pissed about the Warriors getting KD but I think I'm in the minority of those who are excited about it.  Am I pissed I don't get to see him on my hometown Celtics team? Of course.  Who wouldn't want a 7 foot freak that can score from everywhere on their favorite team. The reason I'm excited to see this team is because I like watching basketball when its played at a level thats so ridiculous that its like a video game.  Just guys pulling up from 30+, throwing no look passes, breaking ankles of the entire team, and pretty much making every game like a HoopMixtape video.  Thats what this Warriors team is, absolutely unguardable is almost every situation.  They were killing people with their "death lineup" the last two season that had Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Harrison Barnes (trash), Andre Iguodala, and Draymond Green.  Barnes was getting tons of wide open shots and would miss a ton of them, especially in the playoffs where he looked like a scarred 8th grader playing in an ACC league game.  Now, imagine the looks Barnes was getting and replace him with Kevin Durant or Klay Thompson.  Unstoppable, not fair, RIP to the league.  The Warriors have three guys that could go for 50 whenever they want.  Now as for the Spurs they're going to look a little different since they lost Tim Duncan and added Pau Gasol and also lost Boban Marjanovic as well as Boris Diaw.  If you read my blog about how ridiculous Kawhi Leonard is, you should if you haven't, he should for sure be an MVP candidate this year.  Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli are obviously not getting any younger so its not wrong to wonder if they'll be the same as they were in the past this season.  LaMarcus Aldridge is obviously one of the top power forwards in the league so you know what you'll get from him.  Replacing Timmy with Pau Gasol is a huge step backwards for the Spurs defensively.  Pau is still a great offensive player but he is embarrassingly slow and really needs the ball in his hands to be effective.  The Spurs will be competitive as long as they have Kawhi, Greg Popovich and LaMarcus Aldridge but do not expect them to win on opening night.
