A Lil Snippet

With the start of the NFL preseason, we are not only able to get a sneak peak at what the Falcons have planned for this season, but we are also able to watch and analyze which players may be able to work their way into the regular season rotation. Although we took a 20-23 loss to the Miami Dolphins a few days ago, there were a few players that stood out individually by making amazing plays at the right times. The Falcons' starting rotation was able to come in on the first drive of the game and do exactly what fans expected of them. Matt Ryan gave us a solid opening drive, completing all 3 out of the only 3 passes he threw the entire game, one of which was to our newly paid running back, Devonta Freeman on a short, 15 yard TD pass on 4th &1. This drive gave us Falcons fans a sense of reassurance and what may have been a slight taste of what our new offensive coordinator, Steve Sarkisain has up his sleeve for this season. Dan Quinn immediately pulled the offensive starters after the first drive, which gave way for some of the rookies and early career veterans to show what they could do. Running back Terron Ward had an excellent first game with 11 carries, 48 rushing yards, and a touchdown. This is a very good look for him, considering the fact that the Falcons are looking for a third running back to add to the rotation, while at the same time, Ward is coming off an ankle from injury last season. However, he is in a preseason battle for that third spot with rookie Brian Hill out of Wyoming, who happened to not do so good in the first game. Wide receiver Reggie Davis, a free agent rookie signee out of Georgia is also a player to watch for on offense. Although he only had 2 catches in the first preseason game, they totaled up to about 43 yards, one of which was a 27 yard pass from backup quarterback, Matt Simms. Ward and Davis are just two of many offensive players trying to earn their spot in the regular season rotation, hopefully we'll see what the rest of them can do as the preseason goes along.
