Running Through the NFC North

After securing a 34-23 over the Green Bay Packers in our first game in the new Mercedes Benz Stadium, we travel to Detroit for our third NFC North matchup in Week 3 against the Lions. Now, everybody’s raving about the Lions and how they’ve been playing since Matt Stafford, who I’ve actually been a fan of since he played for UGA, got his new contract. They’re supposed to be one of the other high scoring offenses in the NFC this season, but personally, I don’t think they can mess with us. We all know that Matt Stafford is a gunslinger and what not, but the offensive line has always been a problem for them. With that being said, I think our fast and physical pass rushers can cause some problems for him in the pocket, causing him to have to throw the ball earlier than he wants to, giving our secondary room to make plays on the other end of the field. We should be able to do the exact same things we did against Aaron Rodgers last week.

Our offense should also be fine. The Lions don’t have the worst defense, but we all know it takes more than that to stop the Falcons offense. We got into a good rhythm last week after a slow start against the Bears in Week 1. I’m pretty sure Steve Sarkisian plans to carrying that momentum over to this week. We should see a similar style of play calling compared to what we did against Green Bay. The versatility of our offense is what makes us so dangerous. Julio could catch a slant one play then a 30 yard bomb the next. The same thing applies to Sanu, Gabriel, and the rest of our offense, even the running backs. I don’t think the Lions defense is good enough to slow us down and I expect us to put up another 30 plus point game against them on Sunday.

Considering the fact that the Lions offense is pretty good, I’ll say they score maybe about 20 points, unless our defense makes some timely plays that keeps them from even scoring that much. Other than that, I expect the final score to be about 35-20, putting us at 3-0 on the season.
