Upset Saturday in College Football; Top Teams Fall

November 12, 2016 will go down as one of the craziest days in college football in a long time, maybe ever. There were upsets galore on this day, and the number two, three and four ranked teams in the nation were all upset to set the College Football Playoff picture into a complete frenzy. Only the number one ranked Alabama Crimson Tide (10-0) won, rolling past the Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-6) 51-3.

The upsets began when the number two ranked Clemson Tigers (9-1) were beaten by an unranked Pittsburgh (6-4) team 43-42 on a 53-yard field goal with just 10 seconds remaining to play. Clemson has been playing with fire all year, and it finally caught up with them tonight.

Later in the night, number the four ranked Washington Huskies (9-1) got rolled by the 20th ranked USC Trojans (7-3) 26-13 at home. The Huskies never held a lead during the entire game.

To cap off the disastrous day for playoff hopeful teams, the unranked Iowa Hawkeyes (6-4) upended the number three ranked Michigan Wolverines 14-13 with a 33-yard field on the game's final play.

Personally I've felt as though Clemson has been highly over ranked all season, and probably should have lost before the upset tonight.

Now looking ahead, this opens up opportunities for some teams that needed help to get back into the College Football Playoff picture, and with three of the top four teams falling, those teams got the break they needed.

I'd expect Louisville, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Texas A&M are all celebrating tonight, as this gets all of them back into the hunt.

New playoff rankings will be released on Tuesday. I would expect it too look about like this.
