Alec's NBA MVP Rankings (to start Week 5)
The fifth week of the 2016 NBA season is underway. This season has been nothing short of spectacular. It seems that the race for regular season MVP is as competitive as ever so far. Every few days another superstar is either dropping 40 or a triple double, it’s insane. The two best players in the NBA right now, LeBron and Steph, aren’t even in my top 3. That’s how great the competition is. Here are my, and I repeat my, National Basketball Association MVP rankings.
1. James Harden – Houston Rockets
This man has been playing out of his mind just ask Dante Exum who Harden put a dirty step back on just a couple nights ago. He has 3 triple doubles and 7 double doubles so far this year. The new look Rockets have been led by his play and he hasn’t taken his foot off the pedal. He now plays point which has only benefited him. Definitely a no brainer to have him at my number 1 spot. Cook boy.
2. Russell Westbrook – Oklahoma City Thunder
Please no more about him and Durant’s relationship. Westbrook has put that all behind him and has wreaked havoc on the league. He’s averaging 30 points and is doing his best to carry this Thunder team into the playoffs. Wouldn’t we all love to see the Warriors face the Thunder in a seven game series? I know I would.
3. Kawhi Leonard – San Antonio Spurs
The two-time defensive player was off to a thunderous start this year showing everyone why the Spurs were not to be written off as contenders. With Duncan gone, it is undoubtedly his team and he has represented them well. He’s averaging close to 25 points and 6 rebounds but his impact on the game on both ends of the floor is why he’s so high on my list. He can stop LeBron James and only a handful of people in the world can say that.
4. Kevin Durant – Golden State Warriors
Don’t hate me. He’s been going off in recent weeks and not even you can deny that. Durant is scoring a team high in points (28) and 8 boards after finally finding his niche with the league villain Warriors. Since then Durant’s been playing to his potential and dominating the league once again. Let’s see if he can keep it up playing with three other all stars.
5. DeMar Derozan – Toronto Raptors
The start for DeRozan has been unreal. He has averaged 33 points and 50% shooting through the first four weeks. The Raptors have actually looked like a definite two seed in the East at times because of him. This week he plays the Clippers, who are the top ranked team in the league, so let’s see how he responds.
