New York Knicks targeting George Hill

The New York Knicks summer has started off with a little of a hitch. Point guard was their biggest need and already a few have come off the board within the first day. Ricky Rubio got traded, Jeff Teague, Jrue Holiday and Patty Mills all signed contracts. The list gets smaller with really Kyle Lowry and George Hill left. The Knicks are expected to target Hill after his talks broke-off with the Spurs.

So what does George Hill offer?

He maybe one of the least exciting point guards in the league and that is a good thing. Last year he averaged a career high of 16.9PPG and shot over 40% from the 3-point line. Here are his stats:

Age: 30

2016-17 Per-Game Stats: 18.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.3 blocks

Advanced Metrics: 24.8 PER, 56.81 TPA, 3.58 RPM

He was ranked as the 12th best PG in the league by Bleacher and this is why.

With Hill: Offensive Rating: 112.2 Defensive Rating: 95.3 Net: 16.9

Without Hill: Offensive Rating: 104.4 Defensive Rating: 103.8 Net: 0.8

As you can see the Jazz were an elite team with Hill on the floor. The downfall was that he only played 49 games. Thats the problem. He consistently was dealing with some minor injury and really struggled to stay healthy. His health is a red flag and so length of deal could be the sticking point.

Overall Hill is a very underrated PG that the traditional numbers don't do him justice. He is an excellent shooter, playmaker and defender, something the Knicks have lacked for a long-time.
