Post Game Reaction: Knicks Pistons

NBA: Detroit Pistons at New York Knicks

The New York Knicks were back in action after a poor west coast road trip losing all 5-games. The Knicks looked better as they beat the Pistons 109-95. The Pistons a team looking to make the playoffs did not look very interested in this one. The Knicks easily won this game. Lets break it down.

The Knicks Big Three did the heavy lifting. All 3 of them scored at least 20pts. They got 27pts from Rose, Porzingis with 25pts and Melo had 21pts. Overall this was an excellent game by the Knicks on offense. They scored 109pts and had 26 assists. That was the most amazing part of the game, the Knicks actually moved the ball. They made the extra pass on a consistent basis. It looked like a team that played with some cohesion. You wonder why they don't do this more often. Maybe it was a fluke game or because the season is over, the Knick players are willing to try something different. I will say that some of this success has to be due to the Pistons lack of effort as they have really struggled the last 2 weeks.

As good as the offense was, the defense was the difference in this one. The Knicks let the Pistons score 59 first half points but really tightened the D in the second half. They held the Pistons to 37pts in the 2nd half. The Knicks also forced 20 turnovers, which is rare as the Pistons are one of best teams at limiting turnovers. As I keep saying the Knicks looked engaged all night.

It was great to see the Knicks play a good solid game. But again its a pointless win. Yeah its great they were not eliminated from the playoffs but it hurts their rankings for the Draft selection. Fans are not going to remember this win but will remember it if it costs the Knicks a certain player because they were one pick too late. With this win the Knicks go from a 3-way tie for 4th worst record, to the 6th worse record.

The Knicks will be back in action on Wednesday, hopefully the ownership gets the memo that losing is the key to getting a better draft picks.
