MLB Rumors: White Sox looking to move Jose Abreu?

The Chicago White Sox are going in a new direction with their organization. The front office has decided it's time for a rebuild on the South Side of Chicago. The Sox recently traded ace starting pitcher Chris Sale and outfielder Adam Eaton during the Winter Meetings earlier this week. Todd Frazier and Jose Quintana are likely going to be traded as well, but what about Jose Abreu?

In 2016 Abreu hit .293 with 25 homeruns and 100 RBI in 159 games for the White Sox. Abreu is not set to become a free agent until the year 2020. He'll be a cheap salary, power bat that is under control for a few years. Almost every team that doesn't have an All-Star at first base should be interested in acquiring Jose Abreu. In his three major leagues seasons Abreu has a career .299 batting average with 91 homeruns and 308 RBI. Yes, Abreu has put together three straight 25 homeruns or more seasons and 100 plus RBI seasons.

The White Sox should be able to get a huge return on Abreu. The only problem is that this current off-season market has tons of power hitting first base/DH. Brandon Moss, Chris Carter, Adam Lind, and the list goes on, but most of those guys are platoon players and almost all of them want big money and multiple year deals. Jose Abreu is a proven All-Star with a cheap salary who is under control for multiple years. I'd be surprised to see Jose Abreu in a White Sox uniform in 2017.
