Who will sign Matt Holliday?

The St. Louis Cardinals announced that they will not be re-signing 7-time All-Star outfielder Matt Holliday. The 36 years old was injured for part of the season after getting hit in the wrist by a pitch. Holliday played in 110 games hitting .246 with 20 homeruns and 62 RBI during the 2016 season.

Holliday said he does not plan on retiring, but who will sign the 36 year old outfielder? At this point in his career Holliday is more of a designated hitter instead of an everyday outfielder. I could see the Tampa Bay Rays going after Matt Holliday in the off-season. Holliday still has the ability to hit 20 homeruns a season at the major league level and the Rays need a DH.

The Rays 2016 season didn't go the way they planned and I'd expect to see moves during the off-season. Bringing in more offense should be a main focus for the Rays and Holliday could be a solid bat. He can DH most days and even play outfield a few times a week if needed. If the Rays again don't succeed in 2017 they can trade Holliday at the trade deadline for prospects. Holliday likely won't want a multiple year deal and the Rays could use his bat in the lineup.
