Another "Rough" Weekend for the RoughRiders

Another rough weekend for the rough season. The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders continued their awful season this past weekend, losing both games against the Green Bay Gamblers 4-1, at the Resch Center.

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders have had a record breaking season… However, not the record that you want to set. Following the pair of losses this past weekend to the Green Bay Gamblers, their record stands at 11-38-3-1. In other words, very bad.

Friday’s game saw Cedar Rapids jump out to a 1-0 lead after a goal from Zac Robbins mid way through the first. Justin Cole and Bobby Hampton got the assists on the Robbins goal. The score would stay 1-0 until 5 minutes into the third period. Green Bay went on to score four unanswered goals by Palecco, Kosack, and two for the returning Mittelstadt, to win 4-1.

Saturday’s game was very similar to Friday’s game. Cedar Rapids jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a goal from Bobby Hampton to give them a 1-0 lead. Scott Perunovich and Zac Robbins got the assists on the Hampton goal. Green Bay would go on to score the next four goals from Stillwell, Kosack, Brodzinksi, and Palecco. A late power play for Cedar Rapids allowed them to get a goal from Zac Robbins to bring the score to 4-2, which would be the final.

Even though this season has been the worst in franchise history, there are lots of positives to take from it. This team has showed that they don’t quit, and have showed glimpses of brilliance from time to time. There are lots of young players to build on in the coming years, which I’m sure I’ll blog about sooner or later.

Long story short – this season has been awful and we can only hope next year is better.
