Drew Morgan Scouting Report

Arkansas receiver Drew Morgan was training in Texas last Friday when he got news that he would be invited to the East-West Shrine Game. The receiver was fourth in the SEC in receptions and eleventh in yards overall. He was elated when he heard the news, and made the most of his opportunity in St. Petersburg at practice this week. Morgan showed off his receiving potential from the slot as well as his crisp route running. Lackluster quarterback play meant that no target was able to stand out in Saturday's East-West Shrine Game, but I saw more of what I liked from Morgan.

SCOUTING REPORT
School: Arkansas
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 190
Career Stats: 138 catches, 1763 yards, 14 touchdowns in 39 career games (19 starts).

EVALUATION
Route Running: Morgan runs crisp routes and is clean in and out of his breaks. Has a complete route tree mainly consisting of crossing and flat patterns.
Hands: Has consistent hands overall. Does a good job of taking low passes and bringing them into his body. With lightweight frame isn't often tested on 50/50 balls.
Speed: Morgan has around average speed for his position. I'd expect him to run in the 4.43 to 4.5 range in a forty yard dash. Isn't a burner but I wouldn't expect him to be sluggish as a receiver. Speed with the ball in his hands is nice but in just running routes doesn't create separation in that way.
YAC Ability: Morgan does a very good job of creating separation off of his breaks and capitalizing on this by creating yards after catch with jump-cuts and other moves in the open field.
Blocking: May need to put some weight onto his frame if he wants to succeed more often as a blocker. He's physical and does a great job of fighting for his teammates but isn't a driving force on the outside on running plays.
