Alabama wins sixth divisional title under Nick Saban

With Alabama's 51-3 thumping of Mississippi State coupled with Auburn's loss to Georgia sealed the Crimson Tide's sixth west division title under Nick Saban. This marks the sixth time in Nick Saban's ten years as head coach that Alabama has won the west divisional title of the SEC.

Alabama won the west title in 2008, Nick Saban's first division title with the Crimson Tide in his second year as head coach. Alabama would lose to eventual national champion Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators 30-21 in the SEC championship game. Alabama went on to lose to Utah in the Sugar Bowl 31-17.

Alabama repeated as SEC west champs in 2009 and went on to defeat Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators in a rematch 32-13. Alabama advanced and defeated Texas in the national championship game 37-21 to win Alabama's 13th national championship and became the first Crimson Tide team to win 14 games in a season and finished the year with a 14-0 record.

Alabama had to wait until 2012 until they nailed down another SEC west title. The Tide played Georgia in the SEC title game that turned out to be a classic. Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide defeated Georgia in a squeaker 32-28. Alabama would go on to destroy Notre Dame in the national championship game 42-14 to win back to back national championships, their 15th in their storied history. 

Alabama would win the SEC west title again in 2014. The Tide would defeat Missouri 42-13 in the SEC championship game and advance to the first ever college football playoffs. Alabama would lose to Ohio State 42-35 in the first round of the playoffs

Alabama would repeat as SEC west champions in 2015. The Tide would defeat Florida 29-15 in the SEC championship game and become the only team to make the college playoff in the first two years of its existence. The Crimson Tide destroyed Michigan State 38-0 in the first round of the playoffs and went on the defeat Clemson in a thriller 45-40 to win their 16th national championship.

In 2016 Alabama has a three peat as SEC west champions and is currently ranked #1 in the nation. Stay tuned for the possibility of more history being written this year.
