Steelers lose Heyward for the season

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward told reporters Tuesday afternoon that he wouldn't be playing another down of football in the 2016 season. Heyward, an anchor to the Steelers defense and also a team captain, suffered a torn left pectoral in the Steelers 35-30 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Heyward left the game on Sunday briefly during the second quarter with what looked like an apparent left shoulder injury. He told the trainers on the sideline that he was good and went on to finish the game despite the injury.

When Heyward addressed reporters after the Steelers defeat, he had his left shoulder wrapped up with what looked to be ace bandages. He was reevaluated on Tuesday morning and that was when the injury became official.

The 4-5 Steelers already had trouble stopping the run, but with their best defensive player lost for the season, that just got a lot more difficult. Ricardo Mathews and 3rd round draft pick Jason Hargrave are expected to carry the load in Heyward's absence. The Steelers will travel to Cleveland to take on the still win-less Browns on Sunday at 1:00
