Euro 2016 or Copa America Centenario

High scoring entertaining encounters have marked the Copa America so far while there have been close and defensive matches to kick of the Euros.

The dreariness that is usually accompanied by the summers football break for die-hard fans has been knocked off with 2 premier international tournaments on show. Both these tournaments have a host of impressive teams on show and with some of the worlds best players hoping to win accolades for their country, this football fiesta has only just begun. However many fans would argue on which one is better for various reasons and both have their own unique charm. On one hand we have the smooth and silken European brand of football and on the other the raw passion of the American game. Below we take a look at some of aspects where these 2 prestigious tournaments are different.

The worlds best players are on show this summer

If one looks at all of the squads collectively, then Europe has the more known footballers and better teams because the best leagues and teams are European and the Champions League is hosted in Europe. Even though perhaps the best footballers, Messi, Suarez, Neymar are playing in the Copa America. Hence Europe has the better fan base and draw. However the Copa America style of football is more entertaining and better for fans to watch than European which is more tacitcal and defensive with teams more organized. The Copa America is faster, more counter attacking and more goals and individual brilliance highlights the beautiful game. Simply put however the Euros have the bigger magnitude, draw and more people watch it as shown by better ratings. That is partly because there is more on the line for the countries and more convenient watching times.

Europe have the better competitions and well known teams and the best players play here with more quality of players

Europe also has the bigger leagues and better teams that viewers watch every week as compared to South America which is not on the same level. That perhaps makes the Euros more competitive and on the same level. That has characterized the tournament with teams of the same level being organized and playing very tactically. That can sometimes make games boring and the Copa America is faster and more watchable game by game. There are more solo goals and its instinct over tactics.

Copa America has perhaps the better players boasting the likes of Messi, James, Neymar and Suarez

Moreover there is a longer qualification system for the Euros and the best teams make it with some poor ones qualifying, Albania, Russia at the moment, however they defend and find a way to compete. Finally the last marker is the players on show. Europe has the better teams and countries but South American footballers are enjoyable to watch, they have this swagger and personality to their play like Neymar, Messi and draw in audiences. The Copa America perhaps have the better individual attack-minded players. Europe has more technical players who play for the team create chances, Iniesta, Payet, Ozil and they are geniuses on the ball and there are Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic who are deadly. However they are not as 'fun' to watch.

Germany continued recent European dominance in the World Cup

Europe has the better teams because the last few World Cups have been dominated by them but America the better individuals, mainly attackers who score tons of goals. I could go on and on but in the end both tournaments have their own charm and while Copa America is enjoyable the Euros, especially in the knockouts are enthralling and last minute goals win matches and teams like GREECE can win! For me the Euros are a better competition overall but that is because i watch European football every week and love it.
