Houston, we have a $72M Problem!

If you watched any of last nights Monday Night Football, then you know that the fans in Denver pulled no punches in pointing out that the Houston Texans made a $72M mistake... Signs though out Sports Authority Field at Mile High ( didn't they go bankrupt?) showed how the Denver faithful felt about Brock Oswieler, and the decision he made in leaving the super bowl champions in the off season. The Broncos felt good going into the offseason after winning the Superbowl knowing that they had what they believed to be Peyton Manning's predecessor in Brock Oswieler. But then Oswieler pulled the rug out from under CEO John Elway and the rest of the Broncos nation by signing a $72 MILLION dollar deal to become the shinning new face of the up and coming Houston Texans. That left the Broncos in a perilous position of having no starting quarterback, and left fans wondering what was Oswieler thinking. He was just handed the keys to a Superbowl winning Ferrari, and left to go to the Houston Texans!!!

In the week heading into last nights game the Denver defense made it very clear that it was going to be a rough night on young Oswieler. And that's exactly what they did. Oswieler went a whopping 22-41 for 131 and 0 td's. Not to shabby for a $72 MILLION dollar QB! (sarcasm)! And last night was not the exception but rather the rule so far in his Texan's career. His season stats are 156 of 268 for 1533 yrds.  8td's, 8int's, 5 fumbles, a completion rating of 58.2, average yards per pass is 5.72, he has a total quarterback rating of 47, and a passer rating of 71.9! His best game of the season came against the Chicago Bears were he went 22 of 35 for 231. 2td's, 1int. 6.6 per pass, 62.9% completion 78.5 QBR and 89.1 Passer rating... Thats his BEST!!! Sounds like a sound investment to me!! (sarcasm again)!

Lets look at what a $72 million dollar quarter backs stats should look like in comparison. Matthew Stafford's stats for the season are 164 of 241 for 1914 yards. 7.9 per pass. 68% completion. 15 TD's to only 4 int's has a qbr of 105.7 and oh by the way is making $333,333 LESS then Oswieler! Now try this on for size, Derek Carr is 174-264 for 1808 yards. 13td's to only 3 int's. 65.9% completion with a rating of 97.2, and oh by the way makes $16,675,049 LESS.... LESS... Then Oswieler... WHAT???? And oh yea the guy who took Oswieler's place in Denver, Trevor Siemian... he is 112 of 176 for 1211 yards. 8 td's, to only 3 int's 91.8 rating and oh yea, make a meager $583,196 this year compared to the astounding $18,000,000 for OswielerI could keep going but I think you catch my drift...

It's not going to get any easier on the Texans and young Oswieler, as they lost veteran right tackle Derek Newton to double knee injuries. The heart and soul of the Texans JJ Watt still recovering from a back injury, and a division were teams like Miami and Indianapolis seem to be finding their identity, all will make for tough sledding in the weeks to come. And just think, had Rick Smith and Houston not jumped off the deep end and signed Oswieler they could have drafted a player like Dak Prescott who by the way is 125 of 182 for 1486 yards. 7td's to only 1 int. rating of 103.9 and will earn $613,135. A meager savings of $17,386,865!!! You think Robert (Bob) McNair would like a mulligan??
