The End Is Near

With the (hmm) "Unanimous" decision by the Big 12 Monday to stay at 10 schools and not expand, the death warrant has been signed and execution date set for 2021. If anyone thinks for one second that this was a unanimous decision I have some ocean front property in Arizona I will sell you dirt cheap! But this article is not gonna be about the political debacle that is the Big 12.. We are gonna look into my crystal ball and see what happens to the 10 schools in 2021, when they all get to find a new home.

Texas Longhorns. Arguably one of the most politically powerful schools in the nation,  It is probably the least worried about finding a new conference.  It bring's everything any conference would want to have, Texas recruiting base, lots and lots of money, big time fan base, multi sport dominance, etc. Now the most likely spot for the Longhorns is in the PAC 12.  But my crystal ball is for the fans, not the administration and it says they should enter the SEC! And it says Oklahoma should join them! Lets imagine the SEC split into 4 divisions like the NFL and have Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Arkansas all in the same division!! Big time rivalries reunited!! If they think Alabama and Auburn hate each other, put these four schools in the same division again and watch the fireworks fly!  The other divisions would be Auburn, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina. Then Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Missouri. And last but not least LSU, Miss. St., Ole Miss and Georgia. Talk about a powerful conference... and arguably one of the funnest to watch..

Texas Tech, Tcu, Baylor, and Oklahoma St... So after shaking the crystal ball I see these four team all joining the Pac 12 to make it the Pac 16, and the same scenario applies making it a 4 division super conference. You leave these four schools grouped together to make up the Pac 16 south division.  The grouping's follow with Washington, Washington state, Oregon and Oregon state in the north. Stanford, Cal, Utah, and Colorado in the east. Last but not least USC, Arizona St., UCLA, and Arizona in the West. Again you could set back and watch the points fly in this conference, and we all need some quality entertainment late on Saturday nights...

So that leaves us with 4. Lets shake the ball and see what happens...... Ah yes Kansas and West Virginia have a new home in the Big 10 which now becomes the Big 16.. With the Rock Chalk Jayhawks we all know it's the basketball program that is most attractive to conferences and will fit well in this basketball heavy league, creating arguably the best basketball conference in the NCAA. West Virginia is an all around average school athletically speaking but has a rabid fan base, and will perform well in all aspects of this league. This collaboration creates another super conference of 4-4 team divisions and they align like this. West Virginia, Penn St., Maryland, Rutgers in the East. Kansas, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska in the West, Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, Ohio St. in the south and last but not least Illinios, Michigan, Michigan St., Northwestern in the North.

So that leaves probably the most underrated program in the country Kansas State , and well... Iowa State... So I've shaken the magic ball and these schools land in........ The Mountain West conference... That will bring this conference to 14 and climbing. It will not be included in the super confrence championship series but wait.... My ball is shaking..... WOW!!! I take that back with the addition of Houston and BYU, they now have 16 and will be grouped with the other super conferences with 4- 4 team divisions that look like this... In the West you have Hawaii, BYU, Air Force, Nevada. In the East you have New Mexico, Houston, Iowa St., Kansas St. In the North you have Wyoming, Utah St., Boise St., and Colorado St. and in the South  San Jose St., UNLV, San Diego St, Fresno..

Well that about does it... That's how the Big 12 (10) will be divided.. Wait what's that? What about the ACC you ask? Where do they fit if there is already 4 super conferences when it comes to the playoff? Well let me ask my crystal ball and lets see... WOW wait til you hear this.... So the ACC add's Memphis and Cincinnati to its league to create the 5th and final super conference, and the break down looks like this . Notre Dame goes back to being Notre Dame, The North has Syracuse, Boston College, Pitt, Virginia, The East has Wake Forrest, Duke, UNC, and NC State, The West boast's Louisville, Cincinnati, VaTech, and Memphis, and the south rounds out with Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and Miami. As far as the championship series you will have a 32 team playoff system.( Hey don't holler at me I'm just the messenger blame the crystal ball.)  Division winners from each of the 5 conferences plus two runners up and two at large opponents will make up the 32 teams and they will use a rotating bowl game as the playoff games, all leading up to a true national champion. Well I guess that wraps up my trip into the future.. I hope it was a fun ride for everyone. We all know this will never happen because it make too much sense and we all know that dosen't work, but hey a guy can dream cant he!
