Rubio For Rose?

There are recent rumors that the Minnesota Timberwolves are inquiring about Derrick Rose of the New York Knicks. It would be an interesting move for both squads who haven't been performing well all season. The Timberwolves (22-35) sit at 13th in the Western Conference and the Knicks (23-34) sit at 12th in the Eastern Conference so both sides are looking for some help.

If the trade happens to go through, the good thing for the Wolves is that Rose and Head Coach Tom Thibodeau were together for several years with the Chicago Bulls so he knows first hand how to properly use Rose's skill set. The New York Knicks would benefit from this too. Derrick Rose is on the final year of his contract and by getting Rubio in return would lock up the Point Guard position for the Knicks for a couple years to come. In that time, Phil Jackson would be able to figure out how to build around Kristaps Porzingis since he seems to be the next Melo.

On the flip side, Derrick Rose has suffered a lot of injuries since winning MVP in 2011. Though, his knees have been holding up pretty well and its back spasms have been hurting him this year so even though Derrick Rose has a better offensive game, it is a bit of a risk for only a couple of months. Minnesota needs to jump a lot of teams to get into the playoffs so getting the 8th seed is not so likely especially considering the Pelicans are fighting too and they just make that big trade for Boogie Cousins. Ricky Rubio is not a great offensive talent so the Knicks would go backwards with that. He is a good playmaker by passing and playing solid defense but his contract could be an issue as well for New York.

I don't think that the deal will get done but I do think Ricky Rubio will get traded away before the trade deadline hits just because the Wolves look highly upon hometown Tyus Jones and their most recent draft pick, Kris Dunn so they want them to get their future started today.
