Week 5. CFB Headline Bits.

Week 5 featured some mild upsets and one gigantic one. Here are the ten headlines that describes what was Week 5 in college football.

Barkley solidifies Heisman Lead.

The Penn State running back is the jack of all trades. He starts the 45-14 romp over Indiana with a 98 yard kick return for a touchdown. Indiana held him in rushing yards; (20 attempts for 56 yards). But he contributed in other ways with four receptions for 51 yards and even tossed a 16 yard touchdown pass.

Barkley is the clear cut favorite for the Heisman at the end of September.

Bulldogs stone Vols ; 41-0.

The score was every bit of an indication of how this game went. It made the Vols fans throw down in the stands. The Georgia defense completely snuffed out any chance of Tennessee scoring. They completely fell apart after the butt fumble.

This was Tennessee 's worst home loss in 112 years and first shutout since 1994.

Luke Del Rio out for season.

Feleipe Franks will take over the reigns as Luke Del Rio suffers a broken left collarbone in Florida's 38-24 win over Vanderbilt. Del Rio was hit on a third down pass and landed on his surgically repaired left shoulder.

Auburn smokes Mississippi State

Georgia knocked down Mississippi State last week, 31-3. Auburn ran them over to the tune of 49-10. Auburn quarterback, Jarrett Stidham was efficient, going 13-16 for 264 yards and two touchdowns. Running back; Kerryon Johnson, added three touchdowns with his 116 yards rushing. Mississippi State quarterback; Nick Fitzgerald, was frustrated for a second consecutive week, going 13-33 for 157 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Florida State gets first win.

Although it certainly wasn't easy. Seminole running backs; Jacques Patrick and Cam Ayers kept their heads above water through much of the game. Florida State trailed as late as four minutes left in the game when they tied it with a Rickey Aguayo field goal. Freshman quarterback; James Blackman, who struggled through much of the game, connected with Auden Tate for a 40 yard, game winning touchdown.

To touch on a little more on the Seminole struggles; the Wake Forest defense had five sacks and a school record 18 tackles for loss.

Ramblin' Wreck North Carolina; 33-7.

Georgia Tech looks to be a squad to be reckoned with in the ACC Coastal. Their triple option offense kept the ball away from the Tar Heels to a tune of 38:35 possession time. Quarterback; TaQuon Marshall, led the way with 27 rushes for 137 yards and a touchdown.

Tigers pluck Hokies ; 31-17.

A matchup between #2 and #12 at #12's house. Clemson rose up to the challenge once again, by jumping out quickly to a 10-0 lead and 24-3 after three quarters. The Hokies attempted another comeback against Clemson when Marcus Strohman beautifully ran a kick return inside the Clemson five yard line. Tech would put a touchdown up a play later to get within two scores. The next Hokie possession that could have cut the lead to one score; quarterback, Josh Jackson was picked sixed.

Clemson has defeated three Top 15 teams in September. They are the first team to accomplish that in the AP era.

Cougars upset Trojans; 30-27.

"It's like Woodstock ; except everybody has their clothes on."

That quote was from the great mind and philosopher; coach Mike Leach. That was his description of the field storming following Washington State's upset of USC, Friday night. It was an ugly, mistake filled game. USC quarterback; Sam Darnold, was harassed all night, going 15-29 for 164 yards with another interception. USC also lost three starting offensive linemen to injury.

This was the first ever Washington State win over a Top 5 USC.

Oklahoma State survives Texas Tech.

The Cowboys seemed to be still reeling from their surprise home loss to TCU last week. Both quarterbacks surpassed 300 passing yards. Oklahoma State put up a late touchdown to win, 41-34. Oklahoma State also missed two chip shot field goals.

Troy shocks the Bayou; 24-21.

In the biggest upset so far this season; the Troy Trojans beat LSU in Death Valley. It snaps a 49 game non-conference winning streak by LSU at home.

Troy had leads of 17-0 and 24-7 before LSU put up two touchdowns late in the game.

LSU was a 20 point favorite.
