[Q&A]: Catching Up With Soldierboy Ahead of His UFC Fight

Garreth "Soldierboy" McLellan is preparing for his UFC fight in Brazil. Check this Q&A that we did with him:

Cage Side: You have another UFC fight coming up. Do you ever get used to the feeling that you are fighting in the UFC?

Soldeirboy: Yeah you do. This is my 5th fight in the UFC now. I know the travelling, the event and the processes so I am finally feeling comfortable with it all.

Cage side: How would you describe your UFC journey so far?

Soldierboy: It's been tough and I have learnt a lot of lessons about myself but it has all made me a better fighter and person. I am harder working and more focused on my goals. It’s easy to keep motivated when you are winning and everything is great but can u keep yourself focused and hungry when you are not? These are all questions I needed to answer.

Cage Side: How are you preparing for this fight? What is the camp's approach?

Soldierboy: I have changed camps and gone overseas. I am working hard at being better in certain areas that I feel can win me fights.

Cage Side: You came up with a loss in your last fight. Are there any specific lessons that you took from that fight that you will be taking into your next fight?

Soldierboy: Yes. I learnt so much about myself from that fight. It changed a lot for me and I had to make some difficult decisions, which I have done. I have taken all the positives and negatives and using them as tools to make myself better and more equipped for competing at this level.

Cage Side: Who, from your camp, is accompanying you to the event?

Soldierboy: It will be my trainer from my new camp in New Zealand, who is a South African, Coach Jason Vorster, and his team.

Cage Side: What do you know about your opponent?

Soldierboy: He is a new young guy who wants to prove himself. He has a lot of power and is very athletic. He poses a lot of problems but nothing I haven’t seen before.

Cage Side: What can your fans expect from you on this fight?

Soldierboy: A new fighter who is ready to make his mark in the UFC.

Cage Side: From your first UFC fight up to now, how much has your game changed?

Soldierboy: Everything. I am not the same fighter that I was 3 years ago. You have to progress and look for ways to make yourself better. I am more mature and confident in myself. I have made many sacrifices to be better.

Cage Side: Is the UFC treating you good and looking out for you?

Soldierboy: They have been amazing to me and I am grateful for another opportunity to show the world who Soldierboy is.

Cage Side: What are your overall plans in terms of your MMA career?

Soldierboy: I am not done yet. I still have a lot to offer to the UFC and myself. I have put my goals in play and I am going after that. When there is no more fight left in me, then I will look to retire but for now I am only getting started.
