Saquon Barkley is a Grandslam

The New York Football Giants #2 Pick ?

Saquon Barkley is the answer.

The number two pick of the 2018 NFL draft is in sole possession of the New York Giants. The 229 pound running back out of Penn State, Saquon Barkley, should be the selection for the new GM, Dave Gettleman.

“You can build an offense around him,” said anonymous AFC exec of Barkley. “He’s a step above Zeke in all categories, and has much better hands and feet and vision than Fournette does. He’s special. I haven’t seen a better college football player.”

For the 2017 season, Barkley was at a time, the most dominant player in college football. He carried the ball 217 times for almost 1300 yards, outstanding 632 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns for the season. Barkley has a higher ceiling than Ezekiel Elliot and is projected to be better than Todd Gurley who is a MVP candidate this year.

Many Giant fans might be reading this and say “Even if we draft him, we have no offensive line to block for him.” Well, Saquon can be great even with a decent offensive line and can create big plays. Gettleman is the new Giants general manager and his top priority is rebuilding the offensive line. Gettleman strongly believes that running the ball is a main recipe for success and Barkley will be the ingredient needed. It would be foolish to pass up amazing talent like that.

WHY DRAFTING A QUARTERBACK WITH THE #2 PICK IS THE WRONG CHOICE.

For the past 10 years, 26 QBs were first round draft picks, only nine are starters and only five of those players made the playoffs.

Eli Manning is in decline and the Giants are in need for a new franchise quarterback but with the current available prospects coming out of college, none of them are franchise worthy with the number two overall pick. Saquon Barkley is the a home run and will be a franchise cornerstone piece to the Giant’s future success. The top three quarterback prospects are Sam Donald, Josh Rosen, and Baker Mayfield. Yes, they are talented quarterbacks but, they aren’t future franchise quarterbacks, they are projects. With the uncertainty of the position, drafting a QB later in the draft, or keeping Eli Manning for the short term, would be a better option.

Barkley will be a top five running back for the coming years, talent is second to none and he is a must draft player if on the board. Running the ball will help tremendously with the Giants defense because they won’t be on the field as much and it relieves stress off of Eli Manning.

Sam Donald’s turnover issue, Josh Rosen coming of injury with character issues and Baker Mayfield inexperiance of the 3 and 4 step drops coming out of the huddles are all big question marks the Giants have to think about with the number two pick. The top three quarterbacks are all 3-4 year projects and will be nothing but average on the professional level.

If Barkley happens to get drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the first pick, then the next best option would be drafting Baker Mayfield from Okahoma with the number two overall pick. His leadership, big play abilities, and big game experience are all things that separate him from the other quarterbacks.

Here is a YouTube video of Barkley. Notice how on most of these plays, the blocking was bad and he made miracles happen.
