Perfect Start for the Catamounts

After several weeks of conference play, certain teams are beginning to separate themselves from the rest. These teams have proven that they are simply a step up in class from the other members of their conference, they are the teams that are still undefeated in conference play. One such team is the Vermont Catamounts. Sitting at 17-5 overall and riding a 9 game winning streak, this team is on a roll to say the least.

The Catamounts scheduled themselves a decently challenging nonconference schedule and it did pay off a little. They picked up nice wins on the road against Wofford and Hofstra, and beat Yale and Harvard on their home court as well. Also, they managed to keep things reasonably close with the Butler Bulldogs who at the time were #13 in the nation. This Butler loss was among a total of 5 all of which were understandable, (at Providence, at Houston, at South Carolina, against Northeastern, and the aforementioned loss to Butler).

While this string of results was impressive, things really started rolling for the Catamounts once America East play began. Not only have they jumped out to the previously mentioned 7-0 start, but they have been doing so in a dominant fashion. The Catamounts have been absolutely obliterating their conference foes with their lowest margin of victory thus far being 9 points. However, they have yet to play the 2nd best team in the league, Stony Brook, but have that in a few days time. Since Stony Brook have proven themselves to be a threat in this conference as well (they only carry 1 conference loss), look for the Catamounts to struggle to fully take over this game. While it will probably be a closer encouter than they would've liked, I see the Catamounts escaping this one with yet another win. Time will only tell how long this red-hot team will stay unbeaten.
