Montreal quarterback Vernon Adams led the Alouettes on a 94-yard scoring drive late in the fourth quarter and sealed a come-from-behind victory over West Division leader Winnipeg with a 15-yard touchdown pass to WR Jake Wieneke. Adams and the Alouettes capped their biggest comeback in franchise history to defeat the Blue Bombers 38-37.

The Alouettes trailed 37-17 in the third quarter when Adams took matters into his own hands. At the 12:11 mark of the fourth quarter, Adams hit Chris Matthews for a 10-yard touchdown. Roughly four minutes later, Adams and Montreal would take over possession at their own 25-yard line. Adams led the Alouettes down the field and tossed a 29-yard scoring strike to DeVier Posey to bring Montreal within a touchdown.

The Montreal defence came up big and forced a punt on Winnipeg’s next possession and Adams went right back to work. A 60-yard pass from Adams to Quan Bray moved the Alouettes deep into Bombers territory. With just six seconds to play, Adams found Wieneke for the 15-yard touchdown.

Montreal is now 7-5 on the season and sits in second place in the East Division. The loss was Winnipeg’s first in four games and leaves the Bombers 9-4 and tied with Calgary for the top spot in the West. Winnipeg faces Hamilton (10-3) next week. The Bombers lost to the Tigercats 23-15 in Week 7.

The Alouettes will travel to face the BC Lions (3-10) next week. While it’s not like Montreal overtakes Hamilton for the East Division lead, it is looking like the Alouettes will host a first-round playoff game. Montreal finishes the season with Calgary, Winnipeg, Hamilton, and Ottawa.
