What's up...it's March…it's March Madness! Maaan, my UCONN Huskies didn't make the Big Dance, but I still love this time of year. I still remember all those games…all those dogfights and survival games to win the title back in 2004. My brother was just saying last night at dinner that one of the greatest games he has ever seen live was the 2004 Big East Championship when we beat Pittsburgh at the Garden (MSG). Ben Gordon hit a shot reminiscent of Ray Allen's bicycle shot against Georgetown and Allen Iverson. Ben threw the ball into the stands before the game was even over. LOL. What a game, what a memory.
I can talk about that championship run and college forever. We were winners, we were brothers. It was a helluva time. I actually did an interview recently about it and I just loved talking about it...still get goosebumps lol. Nothing like the tournament. Looking forward to the play-in games tonight and everything that comes with this month.
And what comes right along with this month is us making a push for the NBA Playoffs. I don't love talking about the playoffs because I would rather clinch and be fighting for our seeding than talking about it. I am more a doer than a talker. That being said, we are in a BATTLE and we had a HUGE win last night against a tough OKC. Russell Westbrook is ball'in out and honestly we had a specific game plan to blitz him and help as much as possible. It was a very similar way to how we played Chris Paul earlier in the week. BUT Russell is a different animal than CP3. What a game…the energy in the building was electrifying. Thank you to the Dallas fans...we needed you!
It was a TOTAL team effort. Chandler Parsons was balling, Dirk turned back the clock and hit some crucial shots, JJ was great in that second half and I cannot say enough about Rondo. He was key for us. He was the quarterback and he made some genius calls. Things have definitely changed since the Cleveland game. The team is focused and engaged. Rondo is more verbal now and there is no one on our team that can do what he can do…command and lead. It truly is amazing to see and I love playing with him.
But it isn't about one guy…it is about US. This team can be something special. A lot has to fall in place and we have to keep getting better, but two good wins with a lot of big games in front of us...it is going to be MAYHEM!
A Proud Maverick,

PS -- People still ask me why did I change my number from #31 to #3...simple...the last time I won a championship I was wearing #3. UCONN-4-LIFE!
