Vote for Monta Ellis #NBAAllStarNYC
Que pasa mi gente! Getting back into the groove of writing and since last week they announced the All-Star starters and we are less than a week away from hearing who the reserves will be. I want to throw something out there: Monta Ellis deserves to be in New York City! It is an honor to be in the All-Star game and although I have never played in the actual NBA All-Star game, in the past, I have participated in the Rookie/Sophmore game. To be recognized for your craft, for your passion, and in this case your job is a tremendous honor. And honestly every year I feel like a few guys get "snubbed". And I didn't even realize until I started thinking about this post, about how Monta has never been elected to the All-Star game...SMH.
The beauty of our team is that it isn't one guy, it is truly a team effort, a fine balance. Our team, from management to the coaching staff to the players, are crazy hype about how good we are, how much we can improve, and what that means come April, May and June. This isn't about me (I still have a long way to go) but this is my first real chance in my entire pro career to: 1) play in the playoffs (more on that on a near future post), and 2) making a serious deep run to that title.
So it isn't Monta alone. CP (Chandler Parsons) is easily one of the most underrated players in the NBA…good at everything and sneaky athletic. Rondo is a Top-5 point guard in the league (9.2 APG), pass-first ready & steady, everyone knows he steps up his game in the playoffs and really at any big moment. Dirk is no question a FIRST BALLOT Hall of Famer who is like a good glass of Malbec…this guy just gets better with age. Tyson is a beast on the boards and really is the vocal and defensive leader on this team. D-Harris, JJ, and RJ are ALL winners. BUT having said all of that, Monta Ellis has done everything this year and is a huge part of what we do and deserves to be in the All-Star game.
He is averaging about 20 points per game in less than 34 minutes of playing time. I am not much of a stat nerd but the NBA has a new stat called “clutch scoring”. Clutch scoring is defined as a 5-point game in the last 5 minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime. Monta Ellis is the leader in clutch scoring. More than stats, he handles the ball, he makes plays for other guys, he puts pressure on the defense by attacking the rim, he is calm, poised, and ready for the big stage moment.
And I am sure that people think I am sticking up for my guy Monta because we're teammates and some of that is probably true BUT...honestly I think it will be a shame if he doesn’t get recognized to play in this year’s All-Star game at my hometown of New York City. We were drafted in the same Class of 2005 and I've always admired his game, watching and playing with him is a blessing, and like I said there are guys who get snubbed every year...hopefully Monta finally gets recognized. It's been long overdue...period.
These are my thoughts.
