Former players return to the Final Four.
The women's Final Four will be held in Dallas on March 31st and April2. There will be new teams and new faces all playing for a chance to make it to the Final Four. The NCAA is making efforts to get players to return and participate in AlumNation and the Play4Kay events taking place in Dallas. The Play4Kay Game at the Women’s Final Four will take place on Saturday, April 1 from 5 – 6:30pm with a variety of non-stop action that will feature cancer survivors, former players, the Dallas community and members of the 2016 Olympic team. Being able to showcase current and former WNBA players in the Three-Point Shooting Contest aligns perfectly with Kay Yow’s vision to bring people together through basketball to fight against women’s cancer, so this contest is the perfect addition to the Inaugural Women’s Final Four Play4Kay game.
“Our fans love seeing former players at the Women’s Final Four each year, especially WNBA players and Olympians“ said Tracie Hitz, director of championships at the NCAA. “Everyone loves Kay Yow, so there’s no better way to honor her vision than by creating something unique this year in Dallas with the help of some of the best to ever play the game.”
Each participant in the 3-Point Shooting Contest will receive a thank you gift, as well as two suite tickets to all three games in Dallas. Along with these incentives, WNBA players will also be playing for a tremendous cause, which will increase awareness and donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Each player will wear a Play4Kay jerseys that will will be auctioned off after the game with all proceeds going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. All the proceeds on Saturday events in tourney town will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.Former North Carolina State head coach Kay Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and faced three battles with the disease before she passed away on January 24, 1987. Prior to her death, Yow had a vision of uniting a nation of players, coaches, and an entire basketball community to make a difference, which is how the Kay Yow Cancer Fund was born. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is a charitable organization committed to finding an answer in the fight for all women’s cancers through raising money and assisting those who are underserved.
