How I Cured my Raptor’s Championship Hangover

I am writing this assuming we have all woken up the morning after having drank too much.

After the Raptor’s won, I equated the everlasting feeling to a positive hangover; a nonstop series of floating feelings. Constantly having to remind myself we are the champions; then last Saturday happened. (For those who may not know, MVP Kawhi Leonard signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. Also, Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father, Newhart was all a dream, and Neil Armstrong walked on the moon.)

Kawhi signing with the Clippers started to cure my hangover with a series of events that bordered on the insane attempt to make myself land.

First, I decided to try and waterski. Funny enough, I originally put waterskip and waterskipping describes what I did more accurately. Of course it began with a bet, Justin got the better of me and I was trying to get up on the water for 10 hole seconds, a feat I had never done. I tried… and I tried… and I tried…. Eventually standing for a couple of seconds until I heard a fateful snap. Fateful is probably a harsh word but my hamstring definitely ended my chances of winning another bet with Justin.

Then I ignored the advice to wear sunscreen. Sunday I was just red, like a nice, bright, stupid red. I do not know what I was thinking or why. Of course that has advanced to where I presently feel like a Nascar tire during donuts after a win. Yeah to say I am flakey… I am sure that’s enough.

Then I added a wisdom tooth removal. Why at 48 would I feel the need to remove a wisdom tooth is beyond me, but it is gone. I was a complete baby getting it done, I was surprised how fast it was over, and I was disappointed in the size. (2 of the 3 get a strong that’s what she said.)

Funny enough, none of my attempted cures really worked. I am still happy about our Championship. I think about it from time to time and just smile a little. I am really looking forward to seeing that jersey with the little gold section on the back of the neck signifying we are a championship franchise. I hold no ill will towards Kawhi. People forget that athletes are people and they completely have the right to play wherever they want when they are free agents. Why people and groups own the construct of a team, no one OWNS a player. I am not even mad that the US media has stopped paying attention to our NBA community.

So finally, I turned to the wisdom of my uncle Frank for a cure. He always preached that the hair of the dog was the cure when everything else failed. So, I am also looking forward to seeing this team running it back again despite no Kawhi. I believe at worst they are the 94-95 Bulls the year after MJ retired for the first time and at best they are the 2004 Pistons. I think they will tinker this summer but heading into next year, while they may not be the most talented, they are the best team. To quote Gord, “Lets just see what tomorrow brings.”
