It’s Friday, Friday.. Five for You On Friday
I apologize if I brought up bad memories of Ms. Black’s poor excuse for a song. Try to concentrate and don’t get it stuck in your head. Too late?
1. Non-Compete Clause
The 76ers are making a joke of the NBA again. There should be some type of rule that allows fans to get refunds for these games. (I am thinking more of season ticket holders who have to purchase these tickets. If you just buy a single game ticket to see this NBADL team it is your own fault.) I also believe the league needs to take a stand and fine teams who get blown out like this. It was 73-29 at the half. If that’s the best they can do, the 76ers do not deserve to be in the league. They lose their games on average by 17.1 points and have yet to win a game.
2. Get a Speech Writer Derrick
Rose ‘s star was tarnished when he talked about his post basketball career and his new perspective on the future. I wonder if he realizes he is paid to play in all the games? If he feels so inclined to worry about the state of his knees when he is 50, maybe he should allow his bosses to reduce his pay so he can pay less. Rarely do I take the owner’s side on these matters but if Rose wants to keep getting the big bucks then he has to play like a big dog. If he wants to be a pampered puppy, maybe he needs to return some of the big bones. Wolf!
3. Kobe, Stop Assuming You are the GOAT of your Generation
Maybe the Black Mamba needs to do a little reflecting on his career. He talks and acts like he is the greatest since MJ but there are a lot of guys who could argue they have done as much or more with less. The strongest argument would come from Tim Duncan who has the same number of rings but significantly less headlines. Duncan has been a pro’s pro who just went about his job without asking to be noticed. Since 2000, if I am ranking players, Mr. Bryant is not even in my top two. No matter how much I hated him, MJ never had that fear.
4. Love to go West?
A slow start for the Cavs means rumors have to be created. Love can opt out of his contact next summer and if he is unhappy, he may go home to Cali. I would feel for them if they traded all those young players for a one year rental. As a Raptor’s fan, I am hoping he does. Of course, if he is not really sharpening his moustache with Kyrie, he may just want to go to White Castle.
5. Davis and Wiggins
The league is going Brow crazy and some even have him in line for MVP voting. He has brought some respectability to New Orleans and people are paying attention now. Why is this important to Andrew Wiggins? With all the doubting of the future Captain Canada, he should look to Davis as a role model. Be patient and work hard and he will be on the MVP ballot sooner than later. Of course he will be wearing a Raptor jersey when that time comes….
Bonus thought: NCAA Starts Tonight
Time keeps on slipping…. I cannot believe I do not get extra time off to just watch sports. I cannot do my job, coach, watch NBA, watch NFL, and now watch the new NCAA season. I need a stunt double or something. In the early part of the NCAA season, look to watch the quick rises and drops in the rankings. Also take note of the next great thing!
*Raptor Watch*
The good news is they are 7-2 and tied for first in the Eastern Conference. The bad news is how this team fades when the spotlight is thrust upon them. Thursday, the Bulls handled the Raptors pretty easily due in large part to a third quarter blowout. The Raptors lead at half and I believe they had a chance to think about how well they were playing; then came 12 disastrous minutes. In order to compete for the big prizes, this team will have to learn to deal with the pressure. Until they do, they will continue to come up short. Just another growing pain!
