You Say You Want a Resolution….
Ah New Years, the reset button that makes us reflect on our lives and question our motivations. I’ve made it through 44 before this year and I don’t remember ever having the need to make a drastic change. That said, there is a chance I could have made several “forgotten” resolutions on New Years Eve.
I thought I would make it through number 45 without unnecessary incident until my brother Darroch introduced me to the 15x365 challenge. The goal is to run outside for fifteen minutes a day, everyday of the year. (Ed. Note: because it is a Leap Year it is actually 15x366)

RULES
• Run continuously for at least 15 minutes
• Distance does not matter
• Speed does not matter, but you must run (no walking!)
• Runs must be completed everyday before you go to sleep
• Runs completed as part of sport or other activities do not count
• Runs must be completed outdoors
I am at least grateful that speed does not matter but I am fearful that some might see my 12 minute miles as a brisk stroll. Usain Bolt really has a lot on me.
Day one was easy enough as I cruised the clean streets of Toronto. I would like to report that I was positive and upbeat but even then I knew this was going to be a pain in the ass. To my credit, I did not make the classic mistakes like buying a bunch of running crap or announcing my plans before I took a step. Instead I am blogging it 17 days in…. 4.6% of the way. If I was driving across Canada and leaving St. John’s, I would have just passed Grand Falls-Windsor.
If you have decided that I might be a tad negative, you are right. My worst run was Thursday night after a birthday celebration with Tony “Beer Me” Trerise. Remember one of these things on Sesame Street?

I stopped exactly at 15 minutes!
I am looking forward to warmer temperatures and having to dress less for these adventures. Of course to reduce my enjoyment of Spring I am also spear heading our school’s half-marathon group, so there is that. At least I will have an excuse for my sneaker purchases. Are you still selling Brooks Mr. Smith?
