What Does Jonathan Stewart's Extension Mean For The Panthers' Draft

Pictured above is the 30 year old running back for the Carolina Panthers. Jonathan Stewart has been a staple for this team since drafted in the first round 10 years ago. On Friday March 24th, Stewart signed an extension through 2018. We know that this means that the Panthers are not ready to move on from the back just yet. The real question is what does this mean for the draft. Initially, many mock drafts, including mine, have the Panthers taking LSU running back Leonard Fournette with the 8th overall pick. With this extension, it most likely changes things. Now, the Panthers have a chance to fill another need on the team, like offensive line, defensive backs, or just the best player available. I would suggest that the Panthers stay away from an offensive lineman because the class is not the strongest. If the Panthers were to draft a lineman it would most likely be either Wisconsin's Ryan Ramczyk, or Alabama's Cam Robinson. If they went with a potential defensive back it would probably look like a Budda Baker from Washington, UCONN's Obi Melefonwu, USC's Adoree' Jackson, or even a Jabrill Peppers from Michigan. If the Panthers were to go with best player available, it still could be Fournette, but other options look like Mike Williams from Clemson, Alabama's Reuben Foster, or even Stanford's Solomon Thomas. It's clear that the Panthers have many options, but it is unclear which path they may choose. Let me know your thought and opinions down in the comments below.
