Go, Cubs, Go

I have been to one game at Wrigley Field in my life. It was September 25, 2015, and two of my friends and I skipped class on a Friday and took redeye flight to Chicago to see the Cubs play. The Cubs lost 3-2 to the Pittsburgh Pirates, postponing their playoff clinching celebration until later that evening when the Giants lost. Since I was not there to see them Fly the W, I missed out on a large part of Chicago Cubs tradition, the singing of Go, Cubs, Go.

Steve Goodman taking in a game at Wrigley Field

The song was written by Grammy award winner and lifelong Cubs fan Steve Goodman in 1984 and was the anthem for their playoff run that year. The Cubs have played it after every victory since 2007, reviving the hit song. It has been sung hundreds of times at Wrigley Field over the past 32 years, but never has it been sung with as much passion and joy as it was after the Cubs won Game 5 of the World Series to keep their hopes alive.

The jubilant choir could be heard from almost a mile away.

Goosebumps. I had goosebumps as I watched it on live TV and I get them when I watch these clips on the internet.

For a few minutes, it seemed as though nothing else mattered. Every Cubs fan was smiling, singing with and hugging each other. These fans have waited 70 years for this moment, to see the Cubs win a World Series game at Wrigley. Regardless of the outcome of the series, it truly was a special moment.
