Finally the Lakers have done what they should have done 5 years ago. Lakers have relieved GM Mitch Kupchak and Jim Buss as role of VP of their duties. Lakers went ahead and Name the Greatest Laker Ever Magic Johnson to President of Basketball Operations. In a move long overdue, Lakers hope to be in contention for championships for years to come.
Over the last few seasons, Lakers were unable to attract superstar players to come play in the purple & gold due in large part to the image the Lakers front office had. Free agents would listen to the Lakers pitch, but made no commitment to sign with Lakers. The Lakers have been bottom feeders of the western conference being no higher than a 7th seed in West since 2012. As of right now the Lakers have 19 wins this season when they had possible playoffs expectations this year under new coach Luke Walton.
Magic, a man that bleeds purple & gold is the best fit for the Lakers right now. Proven winner on the court and off the court with his businesses, Magic has the cache, the will, and the ability to attract quality players and talent to come play for Lakers. Lakers, a team use to competing for titles with a array of Hall of Famers thru the team history, look poise to be back in the spotlight in the upcoming years. Lakers have already traded guard Lou Williams to Rockets for a first round pick.
I don't expect Lakers to be in playoffs this year, but i do expect better effort, better talent and overall the Lakers regaining their Hollywood Cache in the next 3 to 4 seasons. I expect at least one or two big time free agents to sign with team and i expect quality draft picks under the Magic Regime. Magic will get whom ever he needs to make players better and get this team moving in the right direction as they were spiraling in a wild fire under the Buss Regime.
