Matt Hunwick placed on Injured Reserve

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Matt Hunwick has been placed on Injured Reserve with a reported lower-body injury, according to James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail.

Hunwick has come under fire from fans this season for poor performances leading to the Leafs conceded multiple goals, particularly in the 7-3 loss to Tampa Bay.

Hunwick has averaged 16:59 of ice time so far this season, earning one assist in six games and a -3 rating.

The Leafs now has a space open on their roster and fill it with Josh Leivo if he is ready to return to action, otherwise an AHL defenceman may get a look if Leivo can't return.

Whoever fills the gap, Leafs fans will be happy to hear that the 31-year-old won't be on the ice for at least a couple of weeks, something they have been crying out for in recent games.

Mike Babcock will now have decisions to make regarding his team's roster, particularly where Frank Corrado is concerned.
