The New York Giants Should Trade Odell Beckham Jr After Next Season

Even though Odell Beckham Jr has emerged as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL the New York Giants should strongly consider trading him after next season. This is because the Giants organization made it a priority to feature Odell Beckham Jr as a focal point of their offense. Due to the fact that when Odell Beckham Jr made his debut for the Giants in October of last year, the Giants were able to finally see what kind of speed he had on the field. They soon realized that provided he had man-to-man against a corner, corners would be unable to keep up with his speed. This time and time again put Eli in a position to throw the ball either over the top of the corner or over the middle of the field, in a position where the defense would have trouble catching up to Odell. Throughout all of last season, the Giants game plan of featuring Odell Beckham Jr as a focal point of their offense was paying off statistically as Odell Beckham Jr continues to blow by corners and catch passes to the tune of 96 catches for 1,450 yards and 13 touchdowns and the Giants offense as a whole was 7th in the NFL in terms of passing yards per game averaging 271.7 yards per game.

The downside to featuring Odell Beckham Jr as a focal point of their offense is that the Giants have become a one-dimensional offense as they try to get the ball to Odell as much as possible. In fact, according to teamrankings.com the,  Giants was 7th in the NFL in terms of passing attempts per game averaging 38.9 last season.  Furthermore, the team only completed 24.3 passes per game which means that there were 14.5 times a game where the clock stopped meaning that the defense would have to go back on the field without the proper amount of rest. This means that the defense was susceptible to giving up more yards because they were not able to regain the energy to make sure to properly tackle a player when they are running with the ball.

Therefore, the Giants must run the ball more than 25.2 times a game, this will allow the team to lower the amount of time that the defense is on the field (31:40 minutes). As a result, they will be able to regain their energy to make sure to properly tackle a player when they are running with the ball. But the only way this change will occur is if Odell Beckham Jr is traded.
