1. Bushnell Neo Ion Golf GPS Watch

The Bushnell Neo Ion watch is attractive, comfortable and really similar to what you will be used to. The watch design is really fashionable in the way it looks but it’s functions are great too. The price is nicely competitive falling short of some of the other products on this list, offering really great value for money.

Offering all of the standard features, such as yardage, hazard information and a scorecard, this watch also has a helpful auto-hole offering which negates that need for you to flick through the holes yourself, merely start playing and the watch itself with track where you are on the course and which hole you are at. A handy addition is that this comes ready to wear and use right out of the box, it is fully charged from the off and there’s not sorts of membership fees or application downloads needed for this device. Take a look below for some of the main, great features on the Bushnell Neo Ion.

Pros

An impressive 35,000 courses on offer through this watch, you’re likely to find what you’re looking for on here course-wise. Even more handy is the fact that this kit is waterproof and has knowledge of up to 4 hazards per hole, meaning you’ll get that nice little bit of extra help during competition.

The battery life on the Neo is superb, lasting over 3 rounds without the need to charge, you will really be able to make the most out of this watch, and if you’re on a golfing weekend or a particularly long course you will have absolutely no trouble staying up to speed on what’s coming later on in the round.

Cons

There is some talk that this piece of kit doesn’t do great in wet conditions because of the satellite coverage. It’s possible that the watch may cut out or even offer older, unreliable information from an update further back on the course. It’s something worth watching out for, for sure.

The watch face itself is a little large and bulky. It may look nice if you’re used to wearing a watch on your arm, but if you’re not it will take a lot of adjustment. The weight compared to its market competitors and predecessor is a quite heavy 4.8 ounces, which is almost triple the weight of other wrist GPS systems out there. Something to watch out for.

2. Garmin Approach G6 Handheld Touchscreen Golf Course GPS

The second Garmin on the list, but this time it’s a little different. The G6 handheld, unlike the Garmin above, isn’t in watch form, but instead the shape and size of a small mobile phone. It is also, evidentially, less of a high-spec piece of kit that a few of the other GPS systems above. The price is also slightly more than a lot of other of the GPS offerings, but it’s still a good enough product that you should think long and hard about whether you want it. Here are a few of the great points of this kit:

Pros

Although it may be a little different to our offerings above, it still has it’s own nice, unique points that make this a decent product. Firstly, it’s waterproof. Some days on the course aren’t as bright and perfect as you might like, so for the days when the downpours come, this will keep you on point on the course. Another nifty feature is that it has a glove-friendly touchscreen front, making it simple and easy whilst on the course and looking for a quick glance at your shot yardage. Two great features.

Another really excellent feature is the battery life on this product. 15 hours life when charged fully, this piece of kit will get you all the way around the course, and then some.

Cons

The main con here is that the device only holds a back-catalogue of 25,000 courses, something that is quite far down on the amount that the above - and the usual - GPS machines have.

One more problem here is the inconsistency of the GPS. There are multiple times that the product glitches and resets scores - again, not ideal. It seems like, compared to a lot of the market, this machine has some software issues ingrained in its system.

3. GolfBuddy Voice 2 Golf GPS/Rangefinder

Smaller, lighter and easier to use than a lot of other products on the market, the GolfBuddy Voice 2 is a sleek handheld device that serves to help you with your game. Small in size at only 8 x 6 x 4 in, it’s a really handy kit to have on you. Fully stocked up with a GPS that talks through both male and female voice coupled with the larger screen and larger font, this is a simple, no-frills effort from GolfBuddy that you will find very easy to use.

Pros

The main pro for this piece of equipment is its simplicity. It’s got a large screen and an unusual talking GPS which will be handy for the course. With distance readings from the golfer’s perspective, this is just another simple, ‘get-up-and-go’ feature that will have you wanting more.

Water resistant for the games that turn a little wet, you’ll find no issues with using this GPS in the rain.

The Golfbuddy Voice 2 is multilingual which is a really neat feature if you’re planning to buy this from anywhere, all over the globe.

Cons

There’s been an awful lot of times that this machine has stopped working early into its usage. Not something I’ve experienced, but a lot of feedback has revolved around the fact that the charge-port is faulty and the life-span in general of the GPS.

Another small gripe is that fact that it doesn’t come with a strap. Because this isn’t a wrist-watch style, it’s a difficult piece of equipment to have on your person. A buckle or clip to attach somewhere would be the natural addition but this doesn’t come with the product.
