At a frenzied Wrigley Field the Chicago Cubs faced off with the Los Angeles Dodgers in game 6 of the NLCS. Going into the game the Cubs had a 3-2 series advantage needing just one win to go to the World Series for the first time since 1945. The Cubs started off hot in the first inning as Kris Bryant singled, scoring Dexter Fowler. Later in the inning Bryant scored on a sacrifice fly by Ben Zobrist. In the second inning Dexter Fowler had an RBI single, scoring Addison Russell. In the fourth inning Willson Contreras hit a whopping 377 foot homerun to left field. In the fifth inning Anthony Rizzo hit his second homerun of the series which was 392 feet to right center field.

As for the pitching matchup the dominant left hander Clayton Kershaw faced Kyle Hendricks in a rematch from game two. In game two, Kershaw out dueled Hendricks, winning the game 1-0. Hendricks’ only blemish in that game was a solo home run by Adrian Gonzales. In this game, however, it was a different story. Hendricks pitched seven and one third shutout innings. While Kershaw only pitched five innings giving up five runs, four earned. Aroldis Chapman relieved Hendricks in the eighth. Chapman did his job closing down the game for the Cubs, sending them to their first World Series since 1945. This team who has worked so hard did what everyone thought they would. This means everything for Cubs fan who have waited so long for this moment. It means that maybe this year is the year and the phrase, “wait till next year” isn’t going to have to be used. The Cubs still have one more task ahead of them. They face the Cleveland Indians starting Tuesday night at Progressive Field. It’s going to be a matchup of young talent taking on more young talent. Which team is going to take home the World Series crown will be found out in the coming week or so. The Cubs look for their first championship since 1908 and the Indians since 1948. All we know is that it’s going to be a good one.
