Mariners Daily 3/3

Well you can't win them all, and unfortunately the M's lost today to the Texas Rangers by a final of 8-2.

It wasn't the greatest day for the M's pitchers who allowed 8 runs, 12 hits and 4 walks combined. Hisashi Iwakuma got the start, going 2 innings and allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and struck out one. After Kuma's day was done Nick Vincent and Dillon Overton came in and each ended up giving up a homerun. Mark Rzepczynski followed Overton and was the only bright spot for the M's pitching. Rzepczynski bounced back from his last terrible outing and this time didn't allow a hit or run, he only allowed 1 walk. unfortunately it didn't get much better for the M's after that, with Ryan Weber and Dan Altavilla giving up 4 more runs to finish out the game.

Offensively the Mariners were not as potent as they have been in their previous games. Today they were only 1-11 RISP and had 8 LOB. The Mariners scored only 2 runs and had 2 walks to go along with 8 hits. Jarrod Dyson, Robinson Cano and Mitch Haniger had great games today, each one of them finished with an extra base hit today. Dyson's was a RBI Triple, Cano's was a double and Haniger left the yard with a solo homerun. Cruz, Seager and Boog Powell all had nice days as well, each of them had a single today.

Defensively it wasn't the greatest day for the Mariners who committed 2 errors and allowed a double on a would be flyout. The first fielding problem came early in the game when Iwakuma was pitching and ultimately cost the Mariners. With the Rangers' Carlos Gomez on second base Iwakuma was able to get Adrian Beltre to fly out to Haniger in right field, but when Gomez tagged and headed to third Haniger ended up overthrowing Seager and Iwakuma (who was backing up third base) and the ball skipped out of play which allowed Gomez to score on the throwing error. Later on Jarrod Dyson was charged with a fielding error and the Mariners could have been charged with a third error when Tyler O'Neill couldn't locate a pop up which ended up becoming a double. However there was a bright spot defensively which was a very nice relay between Dyson to Cano and Cano to Seager to throw out the Rangers' Ryan Rua who was trying to extend a double into a triple.

Overall not the greatest of days for the Mariners but it is Spring Training and sometimes you need days like this to see exactly what you need to improve upon.

Tomorrow's the Mariners take on the Colorado Rockies at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick at 12:10 PM PT. Yovani Gallardo will make the start with James Paxton to follow. Gallardo will be one of the main players to watch to see if he solidifies that final starting pitching spot as well as to see if he can bounce back and perform well compared to his last start. Tomorrow's game will be available to listen to on 710 ESPN Seattle Radio.

Go Mariners!
