Mariners Daily 3/9

Today the M's got to face the Chicago Cubs who rolled out a lineup that consisted of most of their starters and James Paxton was tasked with trying to stop them. Paxton pitched very well going 3.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, O BB, and 5 SO, Paxton's only mistake was a solo home run to Anthony Rizzo and led the way for the Mariners who defeated the Cubs, 8-6. Evan Scribner followed Paxton and also pitched well going 1 inning of hitless and scoreless baseball while striking out one. Dillon Overton also pitched well, 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO, but unfortunately was responsible for the blown save because of an error that allowed the tying run to score. The rest of the pitching performances weren't too spectacular with Jonathan Aro allowing 2 runs through 1 inning, Jean Machi allowed 1 run in his inning and Christian Bergman allowed a run in his inning of work.

Offensively Zunino went deep again for his 3rd homerun of the Spring. Shank, Motter, Haniger, Gamel, Powell, and Valencia all had great games. O'Malley, Freeman and Martin struggled however going a combined 0-9 with 4 strikeouts. Even with those 3 struggling the M's were able to pound out 17 hits and were 5-11 RISP.
