The Yakupov Era In Edmonton Is Over

END OF A SHORT ERA: The Edmonton Oilers traded 2012 first overall draft pick, Nail Yakupov to St. Louis last night.

Well, the Nail Yakupov era didn't last long in Edmonton.

The first overall draft pick in 2012 was traded last night to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for prospect, Zach Pochiro and a conditional third round draft pick.

The draft pick is going to turn into a second round pick in 2018 if Yakupov scores 15 goals.

Edmonton Oiler's general manager, Peter Chiarelli said he had no choice, but to trade Yakupov.

"He's (Yakupov) is a good kid, but it just didn't work out here," said Chiarelli.

This is the second first overall draft pick to be traded by the Oilers.  Taylor Hall was traded earlier this year to the New Jersey Devils.

I wonder if Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is next.

Now that Yakupov is gone, Chiarelli made another bold move.

Today,  Chiarelli signed 29 year-old free agent, Kris Russell.

The contract is for one-year, worth 3.1 million.
