UCF Coaching Search Update: A Potential Hiccup

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Sources have stated that UCF Athletic Director Danny White has already contacted Notre Dame about interviewing assistant head coach Martin Ingelsby. From all accounts Ingelsby is Danny White's top choice. But out of respect for Head Coach Mike Brey and the players of Notre Dame, White will not hold a formal interview with Ingelsby till the conclusion of Notre Dame's tournament run. These sources have also stated that they believe that UCF is all in on Ingelsby and believe that if there no word about Pikeilli or Underwood interview after their tournament runs then this is a sign that Ingelsby will be the UCF coach. The offer to Ingelsby will be "substantial".

And here is where the hiccup comes in. For those that do not know, Mike Brey received a $5 million endowment last week. There are 3 potential things that he can do with this money: A) it keep him from going to Duke when Coach K retires B)used to pay for the practice facility Brey has demanded for several years C) pay his assistants more. This is where the hiccup is. If Brey decides to increase Ingelsby salary by using a portion of this endowment then I doubt UCF could match that money. That is something to watch out for UCF fans.(I'll wait for the snarky replies on rivals from K_L and Kevin)

So this puts a interesting twist on UCF's coaching search. But I still feel that if there is no word about an increase in Ingelsby's salary at Notre Dame then he will be the head coach of UCF.
