Best Sleeper Picks By Position For Week 5 (10/9/16 - 10/10/16):
Trevor Siemian/Paxton Lynch (whoever starts is the ideal option here)
Eli Manning (only cheap on DK)
Joe Flacco (only cheap on FD)
Jordan Howard (only cheap on DK)
Matt Forte (only cheap on FD)
Ryan Mathews/Wendell Smallwood (Mathews should start and is my preferred option, but Smallwood might be worth playing here instead as the team's second option/borderline first at RB)
Steve Smith Sr.
Demaryius Thomas/Emmanuel Sanders
Dennis Pitta (only cheap on FD)
Hunter Henry (an ideal option if Antonio Gates sits)
Top 3 Sleeper Picks For Week 5 (10/9/16 - 10/10/16):
1. Jordan Howard (RB, CHI) – (2016: RUSH ATT: 35, YDS/G: 59.3, TDS: 0 – FPPG on FD: 10 & DK: 12.5) – vs. Colts D next:
Jordan Howard really excelled for the Bears last week running for 111 yards on 23 carries and caught 3 passes for 21 yards through the air as well. His head coach John Fox said that he will continue to run the ball heavily for his squad and that's what NFL DFS owners want to hear, especially when you consider the fact that he faces an Indianapolis D next that was one of the top 10 worst defenses in the league last season in both RUSH YDS AGAINST and RUSH TDS AGAINST (eighth worst in both stat categories). Colts D isn't off to a much better start this year defensively either, so it's quite possible that Howard could go off again offensively in this matchup and reward his DraftKings owners with another big day, fantasy points wise.
2. Carson Wentz (QB, PHI) – (2016: PASS Y/G: 256.3, TDS: 5, INT: 0 – FPPG on FD: 17.6 & DK: 18.6) – vs. Lions D next:
Last week, 1st-year QB Carson Wentz continued to impress against a Steelers defense he threw for 301 PASS YDS and two TDS against while scrambling once for 10 yards on the ground in a blowout 34-3 win. Wentz now has the Eagles starting off the year with a 3-0 record and next faces a Lions D that shouldn't give them too much of a problem at getting to a 4-0 record. Detroit's defense currently ranks as a very average D in both PASS TDS AGAINST and PASS TDS AGAINST this season and were pretty much the same type of defense last year in those stat categories. This is a pick that has high upside right now and he'll save you a bit of money too in the process at the QB position.
3. Michael Crabtree (WR, OAK) – (2016: REC: 26, YDS/G: 77, TDS: 4 – FPPG on FD: 17.5 & DK: 21.5) – vs. Chargers D next:
In Week 4, Michael Crabtree caught seven passes for 88 yards and scored an eye-opening three TDS against Baltimore. This Oakland WR now has 23 targets over the last two weeks combined & also has an impressive 34 targets on the year to go along with 308 REC YDS and four TDS. He faces a weak San Diego defense next that ranks as the fifth worst D in the league right now in REC YDS AGAINST, so Crabtree has a solid shot at having another big day offensively for his team. It's clear that he's Oakland's favorite target to go to right now and for the very reasonable price tags he's going for right now on both FanDuel and DraftKings, I'd call him a borderline must-start player in all types of competitions on those sites this week.
Top 3 Deep Sleeper Picks For Week 5 (10/9/16 - 10/10/16):
1. Jerick McKinnon (RB, MIN) – (2016: RUSH ATT: 37, YDS/G: 34.5, TDS: 1 – FPPG on FD: 6.6 & on DK: 7.3) – vs. Texans D next:
Jerick McKinnon is a very nice deep sleeper pick this week who's coming off of a solid game last week against the Giants where he ran for 85 YDS on 18 carries and scored 1 TD. No one denies McKinnon's freakish athleticism, so it always feels like it's only a matter of time before he has a monster game for the Vikings and this might be the week where that happens. He faces a Houston D next that's less potent now thanks to a season ending injury to its best defensive lineman (J.J. Watt) & that currently gives up the fourth most RUSH TDS in the NFL and the sixth most RUSH YDS in the league as well. In addition, McKinnon's salary requirements right now on both FanDuel and DraftKings are very, VERY ideal, so you have everything you need to know now as to why this pick is an excellent one to go with at the moment in any contest you sign up for on either site.
2. Steve Smith Sr. (WR, BAL) – (2016: REC: 24, YDS/G: 70.3, TDS: 1 – FPPG on FD: 11.5 & DK: 15.3) – vs. Redskins D next:
Now here's a veteran receiver who still has some gas left in his tank. Steve Smith Sr. has reestablished himself as Joe Flacco's favorite target on the receiving end. In his last two contests, Smith Sr. has caught an impressive 16 passes for 198 YDS and has been targeted a ridiculous 22 times (while hauling in his first TD catch in his last game). He goes up against a very questionable Washington defense next that ranked as the sixth worst D in the NFL last season in REC YDS AGAINST and are the seventh worst team in the league this year in that same stat category. They also ranked as the ninth worst D in the league last year (tied with two other teams) in REC TDS AGAINST. Smith Sr. is a solid value play at the moment who's weak opponent could potentially boost his chances of standing out this week, fantasy points wise, so be sure to give him a start if you're looking to save some cash today at the WR position.
3. Zach Ertz (TE, PHI) – (2016: REC: 6, YDS/G: 58, TDS: 0 – FPPG on FD: 8.8 & DK: 11.8) – vs. Lions D next:
Zach Ertz started off the year hot, receiving wise, with rookie quarterback Carson Wentz throwing to him quite frequently in Week 1 (the TE ended up with six catches and 58 YDS REC), but then he suffered a dislocated rib in that contest against Cleveland. It was clear even before the regular season started this year that Ertz already built chemistry on the field with Ertz since he was the Philly QB's most targeted receiver throughout all of the 2016 preseason as shown by his 11 catches for 75 YDS during that time (and the Eagles TE led the team with 14 targets during that same period). After missing three weeks of football contests, Ertz has been cleared to play by his team's doctors and will start this Sunday against a Detroit D that's the second worst defense in the league right now in REC TDS AGAINST and is a D that ranks as an average to just below average D in REC YDS AGAINST. Now's a good time to get this dirt cheap on DraftKings and reasonably priced on FanDuel TE into as many NFL DFS lineups as you can folks.
