With the 22nd pick in the 2017 NFL draft, the Miami Dolphins selected Defensive End Charles Harris.

The Missouri native spent the past two seasons as a starter for the Mizzou Tigers, earning Second Team All-SEC honours in both 2015 and 2016.

During his time in college, Harris picked up 18 sacks and 136 total tackles.

Harris, who stands at an imposing 6-foot-3 and weighs 253 pounds can be used as a pass rusher as well as further back as an outside linebacker.

He is expected to be the long-term replacement for Cam Wake, who is 35 years old and isn't likely to have many more years ahead of him.

The five-time Pro Bowl player has been one of the Dolphins' best players in recent years and it is now hoped that Harris can learn from the former CFL Defensive Player of the Year over the next season or two before taking over on the left side of the defensive front.

The Dolphins had a strong first season under head coach Adam Gase, making the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

With the bar now set for the Dolphins, ensuring the team is strong defensively will be important.

The team still has holes in areas such as Guard, but drafting the long-term replacement for such an important player is a smart move by the Dolphins.
