Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk named UEFA Men's Player of the Year

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been named UEFA Men's Player of the Year, beating Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the award. The award tops a fantastic season 18/19 for the Liverpool and Netherlands defender. Virgil, who was voted PFA Player of the Year for his displays at the heart of a Liverpool defence which conceded just 22 goals in the Premier League and finished the campaign with a sixth European Cup for Liverpool.

Liverpool team-mate Alisson has also been honoured, he was named Champions League Goalkeeper of the Season at Thursday's Champions League draw ceremony. He was names UEFA best goal-keeper of the season which was also a big achievement for him, after success with his national side Brazil after helping them to another Copa America. Alisson also won the golden boot after he kept 22 clean sheets in the 18/19 season.
