Rugby World Cup Quarter-Final Games + Semi-Final Results

Hi sports fans! Today I will be writing about the four quater final games that have happened this weekend. I will write about South Africa vs Wales, followed by the All blacks vs France, then Argentina vs Ireland and lastly Australia vs Scotland.

The first game took place at Twickenham which was between the 2 time winners South Africa playing one of the home nations Wales. The first half got of to a good start for Wales with a try, conversion and 2 penalties. South Africa were mainly defending in the first half. They really had the luck with the two penalties that were given to them late in the first half. Luckly for South Africa the first half was a close one but Wales skimming past the South Africans making the score 13-12 at half time. In the second half South Africa were really pushing Wales to there limits with explosive running, high tackles and good passing. In the 60th minute Wales scored two awarded penalties extending there lead by 6 leaving the score 19-12. Within the next ten minutes the Welsh gave away silly penalties making the score 19-18. The scores were very tight and the crowd was quiet until suddenly there was a burst through by the South Africans. There was passing along the line until it found Davies (the South African scrum half) and he ran and scoring a late try for them. There was suddenly an uproar for the South African fans. The score was 23-18. It remained like this for the rest of the game making the South Africans the winner by four points. This meant that South Africa will pursue on to the Semi finals breaking Welsh hearts.

The second quarter final took place later that evening, but this time at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. It was between the current rugby world cup holders New Zealand and the runners up in the Final of 2011 France. It was basically the final of the 2011 rugby world cup. Except there have been a few changes. The All Blacks have been improving more and more daily whilst France are going lower and lower in the rankings. The first half got of to a good start for the All blacks with them scoring a couple of tries and converting them. the French had only scored a try, conversion and 2 penalties. The first half was totally dominated by the All Blacks with the half time score of 29-13 to the All Blacks. In the second half France didn't score a single point and defended horribly giving the All Blacks 5 tries and three conversions. The final score was 62-13 to the All Blacks. With the All Blacks destroying France like that there odds for winning the tournament have gone up even higher. For France it was the end of there tournament which wasn't to successful.

The third quarter final took place at the Millennium stadium again at Midday, a day after the All Blacks game. This took place between one of the home nations Ireland and last world cups quarter finalists Argentina. The first half was a relatively good half for both sides. Ireland were doing ok with a try that was converted and a penalty but the Argentinians had the upper hand scoring two tries both converted and two penalties giving them the 20-10 lead at half time. After half time the first 20 minutes were mainly there possession. In that time they managed to score 10 points which levelled the scores. Then all of a sudden Argentina blew the Irish away with 3 penalties, and two tries both converted. The full time score was 43-20 to Argentina. This was a record in the history book in rugby with Argentina making the semi finals for the first time. The Argentinian players had taken advantage of the injured Jonny Sexton and O'brien.

The last quarter final took place at Twickenham which was between two time winners Australia and one of the home nations Scotland. The final score was 35 Australia 34 Scotland. It was a very close game. So there are no northern semi-sphere teams to reach the semi finals for the first time.

Semi-Finals: New Zealand 20 beat South Africa 18, Australia 29 beat Argentina 15. New Zealand and Australia will play each other in the 2015 Rugby World Cup Final at Twickenham the following Saturday on the 31st October (halloween.) The 3rd place play-off will be played between South Africa and Argentina the following Friday in the bronze final at the Olympic park.
