Indians beat Blue Jays, lead 2-0 in ALCS

The Cleveland Indians take a 2-0 lead in the AL Championship Series as they beat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1.

1B Carlos Santana hit a leadoff home run in the second inning to put the Indians up 1-0. It was his first long ball of the playoffs.

Toronto tied the game in the top of the third. 2B Darwin Barney singled with one out and advanced to second base on a groundout by RF Ezequiel Carrera. 3B Josh Donaldson followed with a double, driving in Darwin Barney for the tying run.

Cleveland regained the lead in the bottom of the frame. C Roberto Perez drew a leadoff walk but became the first out when CF Rajai Davis hit into fielder’s choice next.

Rajai Davis went on to steal second base and advanced to third base on a wild pitch by SP J.A. Happ. He eventually came home on a two-out single from SS Francisco Lindor

CL Cody Allen pitched another perfect ninth to earn his second save of the series. He has yet to give up an earned run in this year’s playoffs and posts a WHIP of 1.20.

J.A. Happ (0-1) worked 5 innings, giving up 4 hits, 1 walk and 2 earned runs while striking out 4. He has a 2.70 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP in two postseason appearances.

Cleveland’s SP Josh Tomlin (1-0) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 walks and 1 earned run while fanning 6. After two playoff starts, his ERA and WHIP are at 2.53 and 0.94, respectively.

Carlos Santana went 1-for-2 with 1 run, 1 HR and 1 RBI and is now batting .333 in the ALCS. He has 2 runs, 1 HR, 1 RBI and a batting average of .235 in the postseason. The 30-year old first baseman is on a four-game hitting streak.

Game 3 of the ALCS will be in Toronto on Monday night.
