Indians take 2-1 Lead over Cubs in World Series
The Cleveland Indians take a 2-1 lead in the World Series as they win 1-0 in Game Three of the World Series at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Cleveland scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning. C Roberto Perez led off with a single and was immediately replaced with pinch runner Michael Martinez. CF Tyler Naquin followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Michael Martinez to second base.
Michael Martinez advanced to third base on a wild pitch from RP Carl Edwards Jr. and eventually came home on a single by PH Coco Crisp.
CL Cody Allen pitched 1.1 innings to earn his first save of the World Series. He gave up 1 hit while punching out 3. In eight playoff appearances he has yet to surrender an earned run and posts a 1.00 WHIP. He recorded 2 saves in the ALDS against Boston and 3 against Toronto in the ALCS.
Cleveland’s SP Josh Tomlin worked 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. He is 2-0 in three postseason starts with a 1.76 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP. He will start again if there is a Game Six.
Chicago’s SP Kyle Hendricks pitched 4.1 innings but was lifted after loading the bases in the fifth inning. He gave up 6 hits and 2 walks while fanning 6. He has a 1.31 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP and a 1-1 record in four playoff starts. He will get the ball again if the World Series goes the distance.
Game Four of the World Series will be at Wrigley Field tonight.
