Indians win World Series Opener against Cubs

The Cleveland Indians blank the Chicago Cubs 6-0 in the opener of the World Series.

Cleveland got off to a blistering start. SS Francisco Lindor hit a two-out single in the first inning and went on to steal second base. 1B Mike Napoli and DH Carlos Santana followed with a walk each to load the bases.

3B Jose Ramirez reached on an infield single next to drive in Francisco Lindor and kept the bases loaded.

Mike Napoli came home when LF Brandon Guyer was hit by a pitch to put the Indians up 2-0 after the first inning.

The Indians extended their lead with a one-out home run by C Roberto Perez in the fourth.

Cleveland doubled the score in the eighth inning. Brandon Guyer walked with two outs and RF Lonnie Chisenhall singled to put two runners on base. Roberto Perez followed with his second homer of the game to give the Indians a commanding 6-0 lead.

Chicago’s SP Jon Lester (0-1) worked 5.2 innings, giving up 6 hits, 3 walks and 3 earned runs while striking out 7. In four postseason starts he is 2-1 with a 1.69 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.

Cleveland’s SP Corey Kluber (1-0) pitched 6 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits while fanning 9. He is 3-1 with a stellar 0.74 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP in four playoff starts.

Roberto Perez went 2-for-4 with 2 runs, 2 HR and 4 RBI. He is batting .222 and has 5 runs, 3 HR and 6 RBI in the postseason.

Game Two of the World Series will be in Cleveland tonight.
