Why Kurt Busch winning the Daytona 500 is good for NASCAR

Besides Monster Energy being the title sponsor of the Cup Series, Kurt Busch winning the 2017 Daytona 500 is one of the best things that could've happened to the sport, no doubt about it.

For the last couple seasons, it's no question that NASCAR has been struggling with getting people tuned in and interested in the races for an entire season. The Daytona 500 is consistently watched no matter what year after year. In my honest opinion, this year's race was extremely competitive throughout, and only got better in the closing 20 laps of the race.

Kurt Busch was in the right place at the right time to go ahead and come away with the victory, capitalizing on other driver's fuel woes. Busch never won the Great American Race. In all of the tries he had to take advantage and win the big race, Busch fell short every single time.

Without leading a lap, Busch took the checkered flag and claimed his throne as Daytona 500 champion. A new champion was crowned, and of all the things that were mentioned here, that is what appeals to people the most in these races: new champs.

Busch raced a great race and came away with the victory, sponsored by Haas and Monster.

After three second place finishes, it was about time for the Nevadan to take home the trophy as the 2017 Daytona 500 champ.
