Arnold Palmer Dead At 87

Arnold Palmer, seven-time major winner and one of the most beloved figure in the game, died today, September 25th. He was 87.

Known mostly for his half and half drink, the golfer was perhaps the most polarizing figure in the game. He also became the first name brand golfer.

No one did more to popularize the sport than Palmer, and presence singlehandedly took golf out of the country clubs and into the mainstream. Quite simply, he made golf cool, and me made it appealing to younger generations.

His fans were not the only to praise him for his incredible skill, His fellow competitors revered him as a player. As time progressed, the next generation and the generation after that worshiped him as not only a competitor but also a person. He was also an avid pilot, logging in 20,000 hours over various aircraft in his lifetime.

"The King" had 62 PGA Tour wins and 10 Champions Tours. He also won four Masters, and three PGA Championships on top of almost a dozen accolades and awards. He retired in 2006 with 95 wins over 52 years.
