Where will Tony Romo play?

Tony Romo is one of the most polarizing figures in the NFL today. For as much debate there is on the effectiveness of Jay Cutler, there are countless more arguments about Tony Romo and his play for the Dallas Cowboys. He's been the starting QB for the Cowboys since 2006, having won only 1 playoff game in his career. He's also become extremely fragile over the years, with countless back and collar bone injuries. Regardless of his proneness to injury, the Cowboys always had his back. But this past season, he suffered a broken bone in his back in the preseason, keeping him out until week 9 or 10. Once he went down, the Cowboys went ahead and placed rookie Dak Prescott as the starter. Along with fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott, Prescott led the Cowboys to a 13-3 record on the year, winning the NFC East division to solidify a playoff berth. Romo was deemed healthy around week 11, but the Cowboys made the smart move in not placing him back under center, and rolling with the hot hand of Prescott. Some people disagreed with this move, but in the NFL today, you have to do what wins games right now, and Prescott was winning games.

The Cowboys went ahead and named Prescott as their starting QB for the future, ultimately ending Romo's tenure in Dallas. Although he is still with the team, he is expected to be released or traded so that he can get an opportunity to start somewhere else. While the Broncos and Texans are in a great position to compete in the playoffs and pretty much only need a QB, the interest in Romo has diminished in recent weeks.

The Texans traded away their starting QB Brock Osweiler to the Browns to not only open up the QB spot but clear up cap space as well to bring in Romo. The Cowboys were expected to release Romo to allow him to choose where he would continue his career, but with the Texans' move of Osweiler, the Cowboys thought it would be better to keep Romo and force a trade from Houston so as not to lose Romo for nothing. That trade still hasn't happened yet, for reasons unknown. The Texans are still the heavy favorite to land Romo, but anything can happen in the NFL, and maybe they are still weighing their options at the QB position.

The Denver Broncos are another team that has been linked to Romo, but they claim to not have any interest whatsoever. It's an interesting statement from them, considering they have a championship caliber defense that helped Peyton Manning win another Super Bowl before retiring 2 seasons ago. Since then, they lost Osweiler to free agency, and have not found a good replacement. Trevor Siemian was named the starter for this season, and he was very underwhelming in his performance, and Denver missed the playoffs as a result. The Broncos also drafted Paxton Lynch in the first round of the draft, but he started only one game due to injury, and the Broncos don't feel he is ready to be named the starter yet. The mindset is that Romo could come in for his last couple of seasons in the league (if he's got that much left in the tank) to help the Broncos compete for another Super Bowl as long as the defense is intact, as well as mentor Lynch to step in as the future starter. But for whatever reason, the Broncos have shown zero interest.

There are a few other teams that have a gaping hole at the QB position, such as the Jets, Browns and 49ers to name a few. But these teams are bottom of the barrel, with much more help needed on both sides of the ball other than just QB. Jerry Jones has a great relationship with Tony Romo, and I highly doubt the Cowboys would trade Romo to a bad situation like one of those teams. They have to feel that a team with a real chance at competing but is missing a QB will eventually offer up some value for the aging QB, but again, interest has been very low. As of now, nobody knows whether Romo will be released or traded. I believe Romo will eventually end up on the Houston Texans, but how that happens remains to be seen.

Where do you think Tony Romo will end up?
