The Colorado Avalanche have hired Jared Bednar as the team's new head coach, TSN Reports.

Bednar, who was coaching the Columbus Blue Jackets' AHL affiliate, took the team to the Calder Cup and won it this past season. Bednar will now have a new challenge ahead of him in coaching the Avalanche, his first NHL gig.

Bednar will replace Patrick Roy, who last month resigned from his position as head coach and VP of hockey operations for the team.
